We are extremely excited to announce that our facility is now using PillCam® capsule endoscopy technology to non-invasively visualize abnormalities of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The disposable capsule is approximately the size of a vitamin and is swallowed by the patient at our facility. As the capsule naturally passes through the GI tract, it wirelessly transmits images to a data recorder worn by the patient. The exam also doesn’t require sedation or radiation that is common with other GI exams.
We feel that this innovative technology will have a profound impact on patients who suffer from a wide variety of GI conditions. We are currently using PillCam® SB capsule endoscopy, a sedation-free technology designed to examine the small bowel to visualize lesions associated with conditions like Crohn’s disease, iron deficiency anemia and obscure GI bleeding. Our facility also offers PillCam® ESO capsule endoscopy to visualize abnormalities in the esophagus.
